Issuer overview

About BlackRock

BlackRock is a global asset manager founded in New York in 1988. Its exchange-traded fund business expanded substantially when the company acquired Barclays Global Investors in 2009, bringing the iShares platform into BlackRock.

BlackRock’s crypto product range combines direct crypto exposure with related equity and income strategies. The range tracked by FindCryptoETFs includes products holding bitcoin or ether, a staking-based ether product, an options-income strategy linked to bitcoin, and an equity ETF focused on blockchain and technology companies.

These products do not all use the same legal structure. The US bitcoin and ether trusts are exchange-traded products that hold crypto assets and are not conventional funds registered under the Investment Company Act of 1940. The blockchain equity ETF invests in listed companies rather than holding cryptocurrency directly. The European bitcoin product is a physically backed ETP issued through a Swiss vehicle and is not a UCITS ETF.

Product range

BlackRock crypto product range

BlackRock’s range covers several forms of crypto-related exposure. IBIT and ETHA provide single-asset exposure to bitcoin and ether. ETHB adds staking to its ether exposure. IB1T extends BlackRock’s physically backed bitcoin offering into European markets, while BITA uses an options-based income strategy linked to bitcoin. IBLC takes a different approach by investing in blockchain and technology companies rather than directly holding crypto assets.

Range structure

How BlackRock approaches crypto exposure

The largest part of BlackRock’s tracked crypto range consists of single-asset products. These products seek to reflect the value of bitcoin or ether after fees and expenses, with the underlying crypto assets held through institutional custody arrangements.

The wider range introduces different sources of exposure. A staking product can receive protocol-level rewards in addition to changes in the price of ether. An options-income product uses a derivatives strategy linked to bitcoin, so its return pattern will differ from holding bitcoin directly. IBLC provides equity exposure to companies connected with blockchain technology and digital assets.

These distinctions matter because products carrying the same issuer name can have different holdings, risks, tax treatment and performance characteristics.

Fees

Fees across BlackRock’s crypto range

The stated annual fees across BlackRock’s tracked crypto products currently range from 0.25% to 0.65%.

Fee comparisons should be made between products with similar structures. A single-asset crypto trust, a staking product, an options-income strategy and a blockchain equity ETF perform different functions. The stated annual fee also excludes possible brokerage charges, bid and offer spreads, taxes and other investor-level costs.

Listing geography

Where BlackRock crypto products are listed

BlackRock’s tracked crypto range spans the US and Europe. Its US products trade through established securities exchanges, while the iShares Bitcoin ETP has trading lines on several European exchanges and in multiple currencies.

Several European tickers can represent the same underlying security. Where trading lines share the same ISIN, FindCryptoETFs should display them as listings of one product rather than adding their AUM together.

Methodology

About the data

This page combines FindCryptoETFs product data with selected issuer history and product context. Product counts cover active exchange-traded products associated with the issuer. Where possible, multiple exchange listings or currency trading lines sharing the same ISIN are treated as one product.

Combined reported AUM is calculated from the latest available product-level figures. Reporting dates can differ, and products without available AUM are excluded. The result may not match the issuer’s corporate AUM because the issuer may include private funds, products outside the FindCryptoETFs database or assets from other business lines.

Fee figures represent stated annual product fees. They can exclude brokerage charges, bid and offer spreads, taxes and other investor-level costs. Promotional waivers should be identified separately from permanent fees.
