A Brief History of Crypto ETFs and ETPs

Crypto exchange-traded products did not emerge as one standard global product. They developed in stages: certificates in Sweden, collateralised debt securities in Switzerland and Germany, futures ETFs in the US, then US spot products. The history matters because two products that both appear under the label “crypto ETF” may have different legal structures, holdings and risks.
